Hello, the straw is not to fill up a water bottle, you use it to sip from any source; river, lake or stream, or bottle. You suck the water through it like a straw. The reason why we pair it with one of our water ozonators, is that its impossible to know if your filter has been compromised or not. (for example by shock or freezing - that can break the ultrafilter fibers.) Also, since our other devices don't filter anything, its a convenient way to be able to utilize our other products, especially with water that is muddy or that has a lot of algae suspended in it.
