UV or ultraviolet light has been used for a while now to aid in purifying water, especially for travelers. There are pens, such as Steripen, or bottles, such as Larq, that use UV light to inactivate micro-organisms. I say "inactivate" because UV light does not actually kill the microbes. It inhibits their ability to reproduce in large enough numbers to make you sick. Now, I don't know about you, but I'd rather have them dead. At any rate, if you are looking for an extremely light weight, and effective water purifier for travel, look no further than the Ozo-Pen, by Roving Blue. They are super simple to use, will purify water right in a glass, so when you travel you can use that tap water that is so hard to trust. It is a new technology, that dissolves ozone gas into the water. Ozone is much more powerful than chlorine so the microbes are killed in less than a minute. Ozone then reverts quickly to oxygen, so after 3 minutes, you are free to consume the water that is not only safe, but now smells and tastes better as well. Cheers!
